Chris Liebenberg and his father Boet came to the Lower Zambezi Valley in the early 1990s, camping out and exploring the area’s pristine wilderness. Their favourite camping site was a beautiful grove of winterthorn trees at the confluence of the Chongwe River and the Zambezi.
Over the years this camp grew from a make-shift overnighting site to an award-winning luxury bush camp - Chongwe River Camp.
A renowned safari guide in his own right, Chris’s fantastic
relationship with the Lower Zambezi’s communities and deep
commitment to the conservation of its flora and fauna have
made him instrumental in the development of the pioneering
new Chiawa Partnership Park initiative.
Chris lives in Lusaka with his wife Juwayhir, and their four
children but divides his time between home, Chongwe’s head
office and camp.
